Asha Ali was born in 1980 on the border between Somalia and Ethiopia in the war torn region of Ogaden. In 1983 when the situation was critical she fled with her family to Uganda and found refuge in the small town of Jinja. Although life in Uganda was a life of small means her mother made sure that Asha and her nine brothers and sisters went to school.
